PTS developed sitewide designs, roadmaps, and blueprints for key technologies, including Central Network Services,Wi-Fi services for public and staff across the site, common PMRS, IRS, mobile reinforcement, and digital signage. PTS worked with The Battersea CTO function and managing agent teams to develop and put into operation the IT processes needed to run and maintain technology across the site.

Introduction

In early 2018, PTS won a competitive tender to provide IT design services for the iconic Battersea Power Station development, working as part of the MACE team. The project involved providing design and consulting services for a flagship 21st-century development. PTS was also successful in winning a competitive tender to provide IT design and consulting services for Phase 3 of the development, which includes commercial, residential, retail spaces, and a hotel. As the project progressed, PTS was asked to develop sitewide designs and blueprints for key technologies, enabling the various technologies in each phase of the development to support and interface with each other.

Solution

PTS’s journey with the iconic Battersea Power Station began in early 2018 after successfully winning a competitive tender for IT design services for the Grade II* listed building and working as part of the MACE delivery team tasked with the restoration of the Power Station. Providing design and consulting services across the many and varied technologies needed to create and operate this exciting new development.

At the same time, Sir Robert McAlpine (SRM) had been appointed to build ‘Phase 3’ of the development which comprises all the buildings making up ‘Electric Boulevard’ including commercial, residential, retail spaces and a hotel. PTS was successful in winning a competitive procurement process to provide IT design and consulting services to Phase 3 working as part of the SRM delivery team.

As the PTS team mobilised and began delivering its packages in support of the project, it became clear that technology in each phase of the development would need to support and interface with technology in other phases. It was also clear that there were areas between the phases such as Pump House Lane, that required the same attention to technology as the core areas of the individual phases to deliver the required services to the development as a whole.

In order to ensure commonality and site-wide service, PTS was asked to develop ‘sitewide designs’, ‘roadmaps’, and ‘blueprints’ for key technologies. These technologies included Central Network Services (key to all energy monitoring, BMS, security, and other building systems) Wi-Fi services for public and staff across the site, common PMRS, IRS, mobile reinforcement, digital signage, etc. PTS worked with The Battersea CTO function and managing agent teams to develop and put into operation the IT processes needed to run and maintain technology across the site.

PTS also worked hand in glove with Battersea Power Station’s IT staff and the hotel operator’s IT staff in procuring and implementing the systems and services needed in a modern Hotel.

During 2022 PTS was asked to support the Battersea Power Station technical teams in ensuring that the various retailers and operators mobilising across the site were supported as the Power Station opened. This brought PTS into a close working relationship with all the customer-focused areas requiring services from the Power Station such as the glass elevator experience, Lift 109, the resident’s private screening rooms, gyms, and of course the many British and international brands with a presence across the site.

The Power Station successfully opened in October 2022 alongside Electric Boulevard. This was followed shortly after by the hotel opening its doors to the public in December 2022.

Benefits

PTS’s work on the Battersea Power Station project enabled the various technologies in each phase of the development to support and interface with each other. This allowed the client to have a streamlined, efficient, and integrated system, which was essential to operate a flagship 21st-century development.

PTS’s work also helped in developing sitewide designs and blueprints for key technologies, which ensured that all technology systems and services were implemented correctly. By supplementing the Battersea and managing agents and the Battersea technical teams, PTS ensured that the various retailers’ and operators’ IT services were delivered successfully, which helped in opening the power station and phase 3 buildings on time.

Overall, PTS’s work helped Battersea Power Station to operate efficiently and seamlessly, providing a world-class experience to all its visitors and tenants.
